A 20-year-old woman was killed and a man wounded in a shooting Sunday morning in Lansing in the south suburbs.

Officers responded to a call of gunfire at 9:20 a.m. near 184th Street and Violet Avenue and found the pair with gunshot wounds, Lansing police said in a statement.

Police released few details of the shooting, but said the shooting did not appear to be random.

Tayveona Edwards was taken to Franciscan Health Munster Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, according to the Lake County coroner’s office. She lived in University Park.

Her death was ruled a homicide, the coroner’s office said.

The man, 24, was taken to another hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

The last reported fatal shooting in Lansing left a man dead during a robbery in November 2019. Terrence Welch, 35, was fatally shot in the parking lot in the 2100 block of 175th Street, authorities said.
