Woman killed in horror bin lorry crash on busy Scots street named by police

A woman who died after being knocked down by a bin lorry in Clackmannanshire has been officially named by Police Scotland.

Margaret Johnstone tragically lost her life after being struck by the refuse vehicle on Alloa High Street at around 3pm on Friday.

Emergency services raced to the scene and locked down the busy road while they dealt with the horror accident.

Despite the best efforts of medics and brave passersby, the 52-year-old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A large police cordon remained in place for around five hours while officers investigated the horror collision.

Sergeant Ruth Aitchison, of Forth Valley Road Policing, said: “We will continue to support Margaret’s family through this difficult time and they have asked if they can be left in peace to come to terms with what has happened.

"I would also like to thank the members of the public who assisted the emergency services at the scene.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident continue and I would again appeal to anyone who may have any information to come forward.

“If you were in the area at the time of the collision and could assist with our investigation, please speak to police.

“Police can be contacted on 101 quoting incident number 2147 of Friday, 13 November, 2020.”
