Woman killed in hit-and-run near highway petrol station

Ms Thomsen was walking back to a car from the Hatton Vale petrol station when she was hit and killed.

A 36-year-old woman has been killed in a hit-and-run incident in the Lockyer Valley, west of Brisbane.

Gatton woman Julie Thomsen was walking westbound on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale when she was struck sometime between 10:30pm and 11:00pm on Saturday, about 200 metres from a service station.

The diver of the car that killed her kept travelling.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said Ms Thomsen died at the scene, with her injuries "incompatible with life".

A man who had been walking with her was not injured.

Police said the pair were returning to their broken-down car on the side of the road when the incident happened.

Ms Thomsen's shocked son Ethan posted a tribute to his mother on Facebook.

"RIP mum I love you so much," he wrote.

The Toowoomba Forensic Crash Unit is appealing for information to identify the vehicle and driver.

Police said they want to see dashcam footage from anyone in the area at the time of the hit-and-run and they will review security footage from the service station.

A staff member from the Shell service station at Hatton Vale told the ABC they had handed the relevant security footage over to police.
