A woman has reportedly been shot dead in front of patrons at a McDonald’s restaurant on the Gold Coast, with a male acquaintance then turning a gun on himself.
Queensland police said the woman was believed to have been shot in the head at about 9.15am on Thursday and died at the scene of the Siganto Drive, Helensvale outlet.
A man known to her was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound that appeared to be self-inflicted, police said.
Police said the man had shot himself in the head and was disarmed at the scene by an officer who took a gun from his hand as he lay there.
One witness told Seven News: “Apparently everyone was crying and one of the cafe girls saw it and [is] pretty distraught.”
No one else was injured and the investigation is ongoing.
It follows the shooting of another woman on the Gold Coast on Wednesday night.
The woman, 27, was shot in the buttocks but had not given police “a complete version of what has occurred”, a police statement said.
She arrived at Gold Coast hospital in a taxi at around 9.55pm with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.
A third woman was allegedly attacked with a machete by a man who had rammed her car in an unrelated incident at Wacol, in Brisbane’s west on Thursday morning.
Police said members of the public had stepped in to protect the woman by “confronting the man with brooms and wheelie bins”.
The woman, who was allegedly chased by the man with a machete down Monterey Street, suffered injuries to her head and neck but they were not life-threatening, police said.
