Woman killed in dog attack, Adelphi Hotel investigation and stars back city's Eurovision bid

These are the latest ECHO headlines this morning.

Tributes to 'lovely' woman killed in horrific dog attack

Tributes have flooded in for a "lovely" woman who was mauled to death in a horrific dog attack.

Merseyside Police were called by the North West Ambulance Service at 4.25pm on Monday, October 3, after they found a woman in her 60s dead in a home on St Brigids Crescent in Vauxhall. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, with police reporting she was attacked by dogs.

More than a dozen police cars, three ambulance vehicles and a fire engine took over nearby Silvester Street and police put a cordon in place from Vauxhall Road to Alderney Road. Forensics officers arrived at the scene around two hours later and were seen entering the home and taking pictures outside.

Eyewitnesses reported to The ECHO "at least two dogs" were involved in the attack. Another added that she "heard screams" from the direction of the home after 4pm.

She said: "My husband came home at about 4pm and I heard a woman's screams at some point after that. When I heard what happened I was shocked.

"The family must be devastated, you can't put it into words really." Read the full story here.

Second Adelphi Hotel investigation after guest injured

The Adelphi Hotel is now the subject of two investigations after a guest was injured at its premises earlier this year.

The famous hotel is the subject of a Liverpool City Council Environmental Health investigation following the tragic death of 21-year-old Chloe Haynes last month. Chloe was found dead having been crushed by a wardrobe on September 10.

Chloe had travelled to Liverpool from Hafan y Mor Haven Holiday Park in Pwllheli, North Wales, where she worked, for a night out. She was sharing a room at the city centre hotel with a colleague, who found her body and raised the alarm.

Three men were initially quizzed by police over Chloe's death, before being released with no further action taken when the circumstances became clear. Merseyside Police have confirmed her death is being treated as "accidental".

It has since been confirmed that Liverpool City Council's Environmental Health department is working with the police on an ongoing investigation into the events surrounding Chloe's death at the Adelphi Hotel.

But now the ECHO can reveal that the Adelphi Hotel - owned by Britannia Hotels - is the subject of a second council investigation following an incident earlier this year. Read more here.

Stars and leading figures back Liverpool's bid for Eurovision 2023

Stars and leading figures of Merseyside are backing the bid for Eurovision to come to Liverpool in 2023.

The city is down to the final two in the race to host the show next year. It is currently contending with Glasgow and a decision is expected to be made in the coming days.

This year's contest was won by the Ukrainian entrants Kalush Orchestra. However the winning country is unable to host next year's event because of the Russian invasion.

Now, celebs and leading figures from Liverpool and the rest of the Merseyside have come forward with reasons why Liverpool should be the hosts. Holly Johnson, lead singer of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, said Liverpool is a "wonderful city".

He said "As part of the bid for Liverpool to host the Eurovision song contest 2023. I would like to remind you all that I grew up in a house that had Beatles wallpaper.

"It was the centre of the Magical Mystery tour. I lived round the corner from Penny Lane and what other city can you visit where you land at John Lennon Airport. It has an amazing heritage for the arts. Read the full story here.
