Woman killed in crash close to site of teens' recent fatal accident

The crash occurred about 3:00pm on Thursday.

A woman has been killed in an Adelaide Hills car crash — on the same road where two Eastern Fleurieu School students died about two months ago.

Emergency services were called to Long Valley Road, near the intersection of Archer Hill Road at Bugle Range, after reports of a two-car crash about 3:00pm on Thursday.

One of the drivers, a 52-year-old woman from Nairne, died at the scene.

The driver of the other car, a 46-year-old man from Mount Barker, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Major Crash investigators went to the scene yesterday to investigate the circumstances surrounding the smash, and Long Valley Road was closed for some time. It has since re-opened.

The death brings the state's road toll to 12, compared to five at the same time last year.

The collision happened on the same road as a two-car crash that claimed the lives of year 12 students Hayden Perkins, 17, and Mikayla Eastwood, 18, last November.

The young couple were killed on Long Valley Road, near the intersection of Gemmel Rd — about 4 kilometres from yesterday's crash scene.

Following the crash, family, friends and the wider Adelaide Hills community mourned the deaths of the "two bright stars" who had just finished high school.

A statement from school principal Ian Kent later confirmed the 31-year-old female driver of the other car, who suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Mount Barker Hospital for treatment, was a teacher at the same school.
