“My business has had to close early because of the police cordon.”

“Cops have said the roads will be shut until tomorrow morning probably.”

A spokeswoman for Clackmannanshire Council confirmed there had been an accident involving a bin lorry, and added it wasn’t a council vehicle.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to High Street in Alloa around 3pm following a report of a crash involving a bin lorry and a pedestrian.

“Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a 52-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been notified.

“The road remains closed whilst officers carry out an investigation. Local diversions are in place and we would ask people to avoid the area."
