Woman killed as gardai rush to scene of three-car crash at Strokestown, Co Roscommon

A woman has been killed in a three-car crash this morning.

Two other women and a child, a boy, were taken to hospital following the horror collision on the N5 at Strokestown, Co Roscommon.

The three-way crash happened between Scramogue Cross and Termonbarry at around 8am on Friday morning.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a woman in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed for a post mortem examination.

A woman in her 40s was taken to Tullamore Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Another woman in her 40s and a boy were also taken to Ballinasloe Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The road has been closed for a Garda forensic team to carry out an examination of the scene.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardai at Castlerea are appealing for any witnesses to this collision and for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at this time to make this footage available to them.
