Woman dies after hit-and-run driver crashes into mobility scooter on New Year's Eve

A 62-year-old woman has died after a hit-and-run driver crashed into her mobility scooter on New Year's Eve.

The victim died at the scene of the collision at a junction in Cannock, Staffordshire, at around 6.30pm.

A search has been launched for the driver, who did not stop.

Staffordshire Police said in a statement: "Despite the best efforts of emergency service staff, she sadly died at the scene.

"Her family have been informed and will be offered support from specially-trained officers.

"The driver of the car failed to stop and enquiries are on-going to trace them."

Officers are now seeking to trace a car with front-end damage, thought to be a silver-coloured Volkswagen Golf.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information that could help with the investigation, including relevant dash-cam footage, is asked to contact police on 101.
