A woman has been killed after she was hit by a train on a level crossing.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene after she was hit by a Transport for Wales train at a level crossing near Towyn, Conwy on Tuesday evening.
It is understood the woman's death is being treated as an accident and an investigation has been launched by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, NorthWalesLive reports.
A police spokesman said: "Shortly after 6pm yesterday evening officers from British Transport Police were called to the railway close to Towyn after reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended but sadly a woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
"Officers are working to inform the woman's family.
"This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
"The Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been notified."
Trains were stopped on Tuesday evening after the incident.
A Network Rail spokesman said on Tuesday: "At approximately 6pm this evening a person was struck by a train on the Ty Gwyn footpath level crossing near Abergele and Pensarn and died at the scene.
"Our thoughts go out to the family of the person involved, and we are now cooperating with the British Transport Police as they investigate this tragic incident."
The line was closed between Rhyl and Llandudno Junction for around three hours and all trains were cancelled.
Transport for Wales said all lines had re-opened by around 9pm.
