Woman killed after a hit-and-run incident in Galway

A woman has died in a suspected hit-and-run near Na Forbacha (Furbo) in Galway.

The woman, who was in her 50s, was struck by a passing vehicle at around 7.20pm. The vehicle failed to remain at the scene.

Gardaí are investigating the collision, which occurred on the R336 Bearna-to-Spidéal Road in Furbo.

She was taken to University Hospital Galway, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A section of the R336 from Bearna (Barna) to An Spideál (Spiddal) will remain closed for the night, pending an examination by garda technical experts tomorrow morning.

The investigation is particularly focused on the period between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the Furbo area between 7pm and 7.30pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 91 514720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
