Woman 'kicked in the head' after being hit with a brick during rush hour

A woman was hit with a brick before being kicked in the head in a shocking rush hour attack.

The woman suffered facial injuries and a cut to the head during an attack on Lord Street, Southport, at around 8.30am this morning.

Merseyside Police confirmed the victim has since been taken to hospital and that her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers arrested a 30-year-old man, from Waterloo, on nearby Belmont Street on suspicion of a Section 18 assault and threats to kill.

An area near a bus stop, close to Mecca Bingo, was cordoned off by police after the attack which took place in broad daylight.

Enquiries are said to be at an early stage but it’s believed the victim and the suspect are known to each other.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We have arrested a man after it was reported a woman was assaulted in Southport this morning (Tuesday 29 September).

“It was reported at 8.20am that a man struck a woman with a brick and kicked her to the head on Lord Street close to Mecca bingo.

“She has been taken to hospital for treatment to a laceration to the head and facial injuries.

“Officers attended and a 30-year-old man from Waterloo was arrested on nearby Belmont Street on suspicion of Section 18 assault and threats to kill.

“Enquiries into the incident are at an early stage, but it is believed the suspect and victim are known to each other.”
