Woman in stitches over note previous owner left under wallpaper 20 years ago

A new homeowner couldn't stop laughing after discovering a message from a previous resident wallpaper hidden under the wallpaper. The woman was stripping off the old wallpaper when she came across the note - written more than 20 years ago.

As reported by the Mirror, it read: "If you ever need to wallpaper this room again, it will take eight rolls of wallpaper. I bought just six rolls at £17 per roll on 5/12/97 and I didn't have enough. It really p***ed me off. Jon 21/12/97."

User Brilliantas shared the a photo of the discovery to Reddit, with the post having since garnered more than 66,000 upvotes and about 700 comments. While most users were left in stitches over Jon's mistake, others wanted to know "what kind of man puts up wallpaper four days before Christmas ".

One person commented: "Maybe his girlfriend or boyfriend was the type to make poor Jon slave away redecorating just four days before Christmas when he should have been drinking beer."

Another added: "Hoping for two more rolls from Father Christmas?"

A third user said: "Someone who needs to prove that their life is together before the judgmental hoard of Christmas visitors arrive?"

Others shared their own notes they plan to leave for future homeowners, with some more questionable than others.

One user wrote: "I still plan to paint a big moustache next time I redecorate, so in the far future when we strip the walls to decorate again, I can turn to my wife and say 'you found my secret stash'."

Another said: "When I was like 17 we redid the flooring in my room, I wrote 'free your mind your ass will follow' on the slab.

"An elderly couple bought the place, I like to believe they went to put some carpet in to keep their feet warm, but ended up living their best life listening to the chili peppers."

A third commented: "Somewhere under the wall paper in my parents' hallway is 'this will be finished by Christmas' written in my dad's handwriting. Written underneath that by my mum is 'what year?'."
