Woman in stitches as she tries to rescue phone fallen under garden decking

A woman was left ‘in stitches’ after she lost her iPhone - only to discover it was trapped underneath the outdoor decking.

Television director Tom Lowry, 30, from Worsley, was trying to help his wife Kim, also 30, find her phone when she lost it last month.

When their initial attempts to find the phone proved to be unsuccessful, they used the ‘Find My iPhone’ service and were able to pinpoint it to a nearby location.

After activating an alarm on the missing phone, the couple scoured their home to find any signs of the lost device.

Eventually, Tom heard the alarm from outside and the pair soon realised it had somehow managed to find its way underneath the decking.

“Kim had been pegging out the washing and had placed her phone on a pile of clothes on the decking,” Tom said.

“She heard a bang but couldn’t see what had fallen at the time so thought nothing of it.

“A few hours later she realised her phone was missing.

“I did the Find My iPhone service and could see it was nearby so we made it set off an alarm.”

Despite identifying the phone's location, Kim was unable to retrieve it.

Having attempted to reach down and grab it, Kim even tried to break the decking open with kitchen knives.

She was eventually able to get phone back by craftily fashioned together some coat hangers with sticky tape.

She was able to get the phone back by using the makeshift retrieval tool in between the decking boards.

“We tried to open the decking first but it has been nailed on rather than screwed,” Tom added.

“Kim then tried to get it out with some kitchen utensils.

“She eventually got it out with a combination of coat hangers, sticky tape, and knives!"
