Woman in 'serious condition' after house fire in New Basford

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 40-year-old woman was taken to hospital in a "serious condition" following a house fire last night.

Residents had to be evacuated from their homes at 10pm on Tuesday, June 1, after a fire broke out in Beech Avenue, New Basford.

Fire engines from Stockhill, West Bridgford and Hucknall Fire Station were called to the scene as well as East Midlands Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Police.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but police and fire staff are currently at the scene.

Detective Sergeant Christopher Berryman, who is leading the investigation for Nottinghamshire Police, said: "A joint police and fire investigation is underway after a fire at a flat in Beech Avenue, New Basford.

"A 40-year-old woman who was alone in the property was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre where she is being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

"She remains in a serious condition.

"The cause of the fire is not yet known but there is no indication of any third-party involvement at this stage.

"I would ask anyone with information about this incident to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 930 of 1 June."
