Woman in serious condition after being hit by car in Gorbals

A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in the Gorbals.

The 22-year-old was struck while crossing between the junctions of Laurieston Road and Florence Street yesterday evening, leading to the closure of Ballater Street for a number of hours.

Police have launched an investigation following the crash, which involved a grey Toyota Yaris, and are appealing for information.

A Police Scotland statement published today says: "Police Scotland is appealing for information following a serious road crash on Ballater Street, Glasgow, on Tuesday, 18 February, 2020.

"The incident happened around 5.15pm at the pedestrian crossing between the junctions of Laurieston Road and Florence Street. It involved a 22-year-old woman and a grey Toyota Yaris.

"Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

"The road was closed until 9pm while police carried out their investigations."

Inspector William Graham, of Glasgow’s Road Policing Unit, said: "Our enquiries into the crash are ongoing and it's important we establish exactly what happened. I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash but has not yet spoken to police to come forward. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dash cam footage which could help with our enquiries."

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 2700 of 18 February.
