A woman in Rochdale has been fined twice in the same day for refusing to wear a face mask in a supermarket.
Police in the town said they are now operating 'dedicated Covid-19 patrols' on a daily basis.
They have been handing out face coverings in partnership with the council and offering support and advice.
But on Tuesday afternoon, officers were forced to enforce a breach of the government rules.
Officers said they were stationed at an unnamed supermarket at around 1pm when a woman entered without a face covering.
She was given one, but then refused to put it on and did not offer a valid exemption reason so was handed a £100 fixed penalty notice.
In a Facebook post, Rochdale police said just "a short time later" the same woman was again seen by officers in the same store without a covering.
She again refused to wear one so was fined another £100.
Each fine can be reduced to £50 if paid within fourteen days.
The government made it mandatory to wear a face covering in shops and supermarkets on July 24.
Children under 11 and those with certain disabilities are exempt.
"Wearing a face covering can help prevent the spread of Covid-19 and the regulations are there to protect everyone," Rochdale police said.
"Please remember to wear one in line with the legal requirements set out by the Government.
"Our officers are there to offer support and guidance but will enforce the regulations when there is a clear breach."
