Woman in police custody after after being found four times over drink-drive limit on M4

A 50-year-old woman is in police custody on suspicion of drink driving.

She reportedly failed to stay in her lane travelling eastbound whilst being four times over the drink drive limit on the M4 between Bristol and Bath during the early hours of this morning (July 8).

Avon and Somerset Police took to social media and posted about the event and warned drivers around our local area about the dangers around drink driving.

They posted: "Another 3 drink drivers dealt with tonight. The driver of this vehicle was 4 times over the drink drive limit on the #M4 between #Bath and #Bristol. Please don’t drink and drive #fatalfour."

A spokesperson for the police confirmed that officers were called to the section of the M4 around junction 18 eastbound.

The spokesperson said: "We received a report of a car failing to stay in its lane travelling eastbound on the M4 towards junction 18 at about 1.10am.

"Officers were dispatched and the vehicle was soon found on the westbound carriageway, heading back towards Bristol.

"The vehicle was stopped and a 50-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen when requested. She remains in custody."
