A woman was left in tears after reading her son's heartfelt Christmas letter to Santa.
The mother of three said she knew this Christmas would be particularly hard for her family as her husband passed away earlier in the year.
Taking to Twitter, she said: “Earlier this year my husband died. My three kids lost their dad. We’ve been muddling through as best we can but we always knew that Christmas would be tough. I’ve just come across the letter to Santa that my eldest has written and honestly, I’m in pieces”.
The letter read, "To Santa,
"As you'll know it's Christmas time and I'll be sending you y list of presents I'd like. This year has been quite difficult for me and my family so would it be OK if I got something for my mum? Thanks".
People were blown away by the young boy's thoughtfulness and selflessness as he asked for a present for his mother.
One person said: “Bless that child and bless you all, with the love you have together. And the love your husband still shows. I’m not religious but I definitely believe something that strong doesn’t leave, it shows in different little ways.”
Another said: “What a wonderful child. Clearly brought up in a house full of love. My heart goes out to all of you - stay strong and know just what a wonderful legacy you and your husband have created”.
The mother was blown away by the response to her post and thanked people for their kindness and well wishes.
She said: “Thank you to you all for your kind words and wishes. It’s so overwhelming that I haven’t had a chance to read all your comments yet but I’m touched by the compassion you’ve shown. To have so much love and support at this time is very special”.
The post also prompted others to share their own stories of Christmas after a devastating loss.
They said: “Sorry for your loss. Children can be so thoughtful. When my young son was diagnosed with a terminal condition his sister’s letter to Father Christmas set me off (to this day she doesn’t know I’ve seen it.”
The letter read: “Dear gather Christmas pleas may I have two baby Sylvanian pandas. I would also like Mr Gum book 2 and 5. But most of all can you please make my little brother better. My brother means a lot to me so please try to make him better.”
