Woman in hysterics after finding hidden note from 30 years ago under wallpaper

A woman has been in hysterics over a note that the previous homeowner left hiding under the wallpaper in the 1990s.

The new homeowner decided to redecorate and began stripping the wallpaper when she discovered the message from the past.

Underneath the 1990s wallpaper, the new homeowner discovered a small note telling future renovators exactly how many rolls of wallpaper they would need to redecorate the room.

The note reads: "If you ever need to wallpaper this room again, it will take eight rolls of wallpaper. I bought just six rolls at £17 per roll on 5/12/97 and I didn't have enough. It really p***ed me off. Jon 21/12/97."

A picture of the note has been shared on Reddit by user Brilliantas and has racked in more than 66,000 upvotes and about 700 comments.

The Mirror reported that most users were laughing at Jon’s mistake and subsequent warning to future homeowners, but some noticed that Jon had been redecorating just four days before Christmas.

“What kind of man puts up wallpaper four days before Christmas,” one user questioned.

Another user said: "Maybe his girlfriend or boyfriend was the type to make poor Jon slave away redecorating just four days before Christmas when he should have been drinking beer."

Someone else added: "Hoping for two more rolls from Father Christmas?"

Another sympathetic reader suggested Jon needed “to prove that their life is together before the judgmental hoard of Christmas visitors arrived.”

The Mirror reported that other Reddit users were sharing notes they have left for future homeowners, including one homeowner who planned to paint a big moustache in a secret spot.

“I still plan to paint a big moustache next time I redecorate, so in the far future when we strip the walls to decorate again, I can turn to my wife and say 'you found my secret stash',” the user said.

Another user added: "When I was like 17 we redid the flooring in my room, I wrote 'free your mind your ass will follow' on the slab.

"An elderly couple bought the place, I like to believe they went to put some carpet in to keep their feet warm, but ended up living their best life listening to the Chili peppers."

One more user said: "Somewhere under the wallpaper in my parents' hallway is 'this will be finished by Christmas' written in my dad's handwriting. Written underneath that by my mum is 'what year?'.”
