Woman in hospital with 'significant injuries' after being hit by car which mounted pavement then struck a lamppost

A woman has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car which mounted the pavement then struck a lamppost.

Emergency services were called to the collision on Hollyhedge Road in Wythenshawe at around 3.35pm on Saturday.

A car mounted a pavement then hit the female pedestrian, police said.

The car then struck a lamppost which also hit the woman.

The woman suffered 'significant injuries' and was taken to hospital from the scene.

The driver, who stopped at the scene, was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

They were later arrested.

Enquiries are ongoing and police have been carrying out investigation work at the scene this evening.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said: "We received a report of a collision on Hollyhedge Road at 3.35pm this afternoon (October 24).

They said: "It looks as though a vehicle has mounted the pavement and struck a female pedestrian.

"The car has also been in collision with a lamppost which also struck the pedestrian.

"The driver stopped at the scene.

"The female has a significant injury and was taken to hospital.

"The driver was also taken to hospital as a precuation. They were also arrested.

"Enquiries are ongoing and the Roads Policing Unit are at the scene conducting an investigation."
