The ambulance service was also called to the scene and the woman was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.

The road was closed for several hours as investigations were carried out at the scene.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or the manner in which the Qashqai was being driven prior to the collision or who has dash-cam footage of the incident is asked to contact South Wales Police, quoting reference 2100264953.
