Woman in hospital after being hit by car near Glasgow shopping centre

A woman is in hospital after being hit by a car near a Glasgow shopping centre.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the car hit the woman on Barrhead Road near the Silverburn shopping centre at around 5.40pm this evening, December 14.

She was raced to Queen Elizabeth University hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The road is closed between Boydstone Road and the Pollokshaws roundabout, Glasgow Live reports.

Traffic Scotland has said that traffic seems to be coping in the area following some earlier congestion after the exit at Junction 2 of the M77 (Southbound) was closed off to vehicles.

It is unclear how old the woman is or what her condition is in hospital.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Around 5.40pm on Monday, 14 December, police were called to a report of a serious road crash involving a pedestrian and a car in Barrhead Road, Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended and a woman was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Barrhead Road is currently closed between Boydstone Road and the Pollokshaws Roundabout.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 2484 of Monday, 14 December, 2020."
