Woman in her 80s left with serious head injuries after being hit by a car

A pensioner is in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Durham.

Emergency services rushed to Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, at around 7.30pm on Monday after a woman in her 80s was knocked down.

Police closed the road in both directions as paramedics arrived to treat the woman who had suffered serious head injuries at the scene.

She was transported to the University Hospital of North Durham before being taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for further treatment.

The woman remains in hospital at this time. The driver involved in the collision was uninjured.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “An elderly woman suffered serious injuries after colliding with a car on Front Street, Framwellgate Moor, Durham, at about 7.30pm on Monday, September 30.

“The woman, who is in her 80s, is currently being treated in the RVI, in Newcastle. The driver was uninjured.

“Witnesses or anyone with any dash cam footage are asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 403 of September 30.”
