Woman in her 70s tragically dies after being hit by car outside Aldi supermarket

A woman in her 70s has died after being hit by a car outside an Aldi supermarket this afternoon.

Emergency services were sent to Aldi's branch in Hal Green, Birmingham, at around noon following reports of an accident.

Despite attempts to save her life the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said enquiries are ongoing, Birmingham Live reported.

They said in a statement: "We were called to a collision involving a car and pedestrian in Stratford Road, Hall Green, at around midday today.

"Sadly, a woman in her 70s was confirmed dead at the scene. Our enquiries are ongoing."

Several people called 999 in the wake of the incident as West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two paramedic officers, two ambulances, a community first responder, a MERIT trauma doctor and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “When ambulance crews arrived, they found a pedestrian, a woman, in a critical condition following a collision with a car.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save the woman and she was confirmed deceased by ambulance staff at the scene a short time later.

"The driver of the car, a man, was assessed by ambulance staff but didn’t require hospital treatment and was discharged on scene.”
