A pensioner has been rushed to hospital after a crash involving two cars and two lorries. North West Ambulance Service says a woman in her 70s has been taken to hospital following the incident.

Emergency services were called out to the scene on Golborne Road, near Golborne, Wigan, at around 2.30pm this afternoon (January 26). NWAS was first onto the scene before officers from Greater Manchester Police.

The extent of any injuries following the collision are not currently known. Golborne Road was closed off in both directions following the crash earlier this afternoon, near to Edge Green Road.

Part of the scene has since been cleared, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. There is currently slow traffic in the area, with the road partially blocked in both directions, while bus journeys have been affected.

A spokesperson for Stagecoach Manchester and Wigan wrote on Twitter: "Route 10. Due to a police incident on Golborne Road/Edge Green Lane, we're diverting in both directions via Bridge Street, East Lancashire Road and Warrington Road. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."
