Woman in her 60s found dead after police called to flats in south Manchester

A woman has died after police were called to a block of flats in south Manchester. Emergency services rushed to Bickerdike Court in Longsight this morning (11 April) after reports over concerns for the welfare of a woman.

Officers from GMP and paramedics from the North West Ambulance service responded to the call and sadly pronounced a woman in her 60s dead at the scene.

An investigation has been launched by the force, with enquiries said to be 'ongoing.' Pictures from the scene show a small area of the apartment block which has been cordoned off by police.

A number of police vehicles have been stationed at the scene throughout the morning and forensic officers have also been spotted carrying out enquiries nearby.

Police have told the Manchester Evening News it is too early to confirm if there any suspicious circumstances surrounding the tragedy. No further details about the nature of the woman's death or her identity have been revealed.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Officers were called to Bickerdike Court, East Road, Longsight, Manchester, at about 9:15am today (11 April 2022) over concerns for the welfare of a woman.

"NWAS also attended and sadly a woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing." A spokesperson for NWAS confirmed: "We were called to the scene but we did not take anyone to hospital."
