Woman in her 50s sustains head injuries after being hit by a van in Newport

A woman has sustained head injuries after a crash involving a van in Newport city centre.

Police are investigating the collision involving a van and a pedestrian which took place on Stow Hill at around 6pm on Wednesday, January 20.

Officers said the driver of a white Mercedes Vito failed to stop, and a woman in her 50s who was crossing the road sustained head injuries.

Anyone with information or who might have dash cam footage is asked to contact Gwent Police.

A statement from the force said: "We're investigating a collision involving a van and pedestrian in Newport. It happened on Stow Hill at about 6pm on Wednesday, January 20.

"The driver of the white Mercedes Vito failed to stop. "

Gwent Police added: "The pedestrian, a lady in her fifties who was crossing the road at the time, suffered head injuries.
