A woman has been taken to hospital after firefighters rescued her from a ground floor flat.
Fire crews were joined by police and paramedics, including an air ambulance, at the home on Sefton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan, around noon today.
The woman inside, thought to be in her 50s, was taken to hospital and a cordon has been set up in the streets surrounding the property.
A spokesman for GMP said: "At around 12pm today (Friday 12 June 2020), police were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a woman on Sefton Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan.
"Emergency services attended and a woman – aged in her 50’s - has been taken to hospital where she has received medical treatment.
"A scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue confirmed that a firefighter had rescued the woman after the blaze broke out.
They said: "Two fire engines from Wigan, along with a fire engines from Lancashire, attended the incident. Firefighters were wearing breathing apparatus and used two hose reels to put out the fire.
"They rescued a woman from a ground floor flat."
Residents living in streets near to Sefton Road spotted an air ambulance which was called to the area to help paramedics.
They were joined by a number of other vehicles including several police cars, fire engines and two ambulances.
