A woman in her 40s has died after suddenly falling ill at a hotel swimming pool.
The woman, who is believed to be Eastern European, was in the pool of the hotel in Killarney this afternoon when she became unwell.
The alarm was raised shortly before 2pm.
The unresponsive woman was taken from the pool and given CPR treatment before being rushed to hospital.
She was rushed to University Hospital Kerry where she was later pronounced dead, despite efforts to revive her.
A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out at the hospital tomorrow and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
A garda spokesperson told The Irish Daily Mirror: "Gardaí are investigating the sudden death of a female in her 40s that occurred at a hotel in Killarney, County Kerry at approximately 1.40pm today, Thursday 5 September 2019.
"After becoming unwell, the female was taken to University Hospital Kerry where she was later pronounced dead.
"It’s understood at this time a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court."
