Woman, in her 30s, dies after being hit by a bus on Smithdown road

A woman in her 30s has died after she was hit by a bus this evening.

Merseyside Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway after the tragedy happened on Smithdown road, at around 7.20pm.

Emergency services, including Merseyside fire service search and rescue appliance, were in attendance to help rescue the woman from under the bus.

North West Ambulance services treated the woman on the scene where she was sadly pronounced dead.

Road closures, on Smithdown road, near the junction with Greenleaf Street, remain in place.

Officers are now appealing for anyone who has witnessed the incident or may have dashcam footage.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm an investigation is underway following a fatal collision in Liverpool this evening, Saturday, 3 April.

"At around 7.20pm, officers were called to Smithdown Road near the junction with Greenleaf Street following reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a woman in her 30’s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

"Road closures remain in place and members of the public are advised to avoid the area.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any CCTV or dashcam footage, is asked to contact @MerPolCC, the Roads Policing Unit on 0151 777 5747, 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
