Woman in her 20s rushed to hospital after car overturns in crash

A woman in her mid-20s has been taken to hospital after a crash where a car was left overturned on a busy main road.

A red car was seen smashed and on its side on Wednesday morning in Wigan Road, Westhoughton, after a crash with a van, say witnesses at the scene.

Smashed glass and debris covered the road and the red Volkswagen blocked the road in both directions.

Emergency services rushed to the incident at around 7.58am and remained at the scene for over an hour as they dealt with the fallout. Fire crews also attended the crash.

Paramedics took the woman who was 'hurt' in the crash to hospital, though she is not believed to be in a serious condition, the ambulance service has confirmed.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We attended the scene with one ambulance, there was one person that was hurt.

"We have taken a patient to hospital, a woman in her mid-20s.

"The woman is not thought to be in a serious condition, it is not major trauma."

Witnesses at the scene described hearing a 'loud bang' before seeing the car in the road.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
