THE Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called in for two main Hunter jobs on Saturday, tasked to a severe burns case and a trail bike accident.
Just before 7pm Saturday emergency services were called to Budgewoi to reports a 51-year-old woman had suffered serious burns from a fire pit. Initial investigations suggest an accelerant was placed onto the fire to assist with the burn, but it came into contact with the woman who was in close proximity to the fire.
Local paramedics responded to the location and commenced treatment. The woman had serious facial and chest burns. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter critical care medical team assisted in treatment upon their arrival. Due to the serious nature of the burns the female was placed into an induced coma and put on life support before being flown direct to the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney.

Earlier the same day, just before 3.30pm, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to help an 18-year-old male trail bike rider who had come off while riding on a remote track in the Freemans Waterhole area. Initial reports suggested the man had serious leg injuries.
The medical team was winched into the scene and commenced treatment of the male who was suffering a fractured femur. Once stabilised, the injured man was stretcher winched from the location and flown direct to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
