Woman 'in distressed state' helped by emergency services in city centre

Emergency services were called to Bristol city centre earlier today (June 6) due to reports of a concern for welfare.

Police cars and ambulance crews were spotted in Penn Street at around lunchtime.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has confirmed officers were called to the scene at around 11.20am after receiving reports of a woman in a "distressed state".

The woman was taken into medical care after being assisted by ambulance crews.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to at 11.20am today to Penn St, in Bristol City Centre, to reports of concern for welfare of a woman in a distressed state. 

"We assisted the ambulance service and the woman was taken into medical care."

In other news, police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist and pedestrian were hospitalised following a serious crash on the A4.

The collision happened just before 11.50pm yesterday evening (June 5) on Bath Road, near the ITV West Country studios and Burger King.

Both the rider and pedestrian suffered injuries and remain in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
