A woman in distress was brought to safety during a police incident near a Central Motorway flyover.

Officers from Northumbria Police were called to Grandstand Road in the Nuns Moor Park area of Newcastle on Wednesday after concerns about the woman were reported.

The main carriageway on the A167(M) was shut while officers spoke to the woman who was eventually brought to safety.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.30pm yesterday (Wednesday) we received a report of a female in distress in the Nuns Moor Park area of Newcastle, near the flyover on Grandstand Road.

“Officers attended and spoke to the woman in question, who was brought to safety. She received treatment at the scene as a precaution and was left in the hands of medical experts.”

The road was reopened at about 6.15pm.
