Aug. 02--A 31-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly fired shots at police officers Saturday evening in northwest suburban Schaumburg.
The woman's roommate alerted police via text that she was holding a pistol and was making suicidal statements around 7:35 p.m. inside a condominium unit in the 1700 block of Maple Place, according to a statement from the Schaumburg Police Department.
When police arrived, the woman's roommate came out of the building, leaving the unit's front door open.
The woman was sitting and holding a pistol to her head when officers walked into the home, according to the statement.
Police officers pleaded with the woman to put the pistol down, but she refused and at one point pointed the weapon at officers, who then exited the unit, according to the statement.
The woman then closed the front door of the unit and refused to come out, police said.
Schaumburg police officers called for additional help, and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) emergency services officers responded a short time later.
The woman refused to come out for several hours and shortly before midnight fired at least one gunshot out of her window at a NIPAS vehicle, according to the statement.
The woman later came out of her unit and fired shots at NIPAS officers who were in the hallway. A NIPAS officer returned fire and struck the woman twice.
She was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the statement.
As of early Sunday morning, the woman was under police guard at the hospital.
Officials are still investigating the incident.
