Woman in critical condition after alleged hit-and-run on Cardiff's Newport Road

A woman has been critically injured in an alleged hit-and-run crash on one of Cardiff's main roads.

The 29-year-old pedestrian was hit by a car on Newport Road at around 11.15pm on Wednesday.

South Wales Police said the woman suffered "serious injuries" and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where her condition is described as critical but stable.

A spokeswoman said that a 27-year-old man from Swansea has been arrested on causing serious injury through dangerous driving following the incident outside the Lynx Hotel.

She added: "A vehicle involved in the incident failed to stop but was located a short distance away."

Part of the road was closed for several hours as police investigated.

Anyone with information or witnesses are asked to contact South Wales Police on 101 quoting occurrence number  *128205.
