Woman in court on stabbing murder charge

Emma Yuot, 27, has faced court charged with murdering 57-year-old Adakruai Mitiang Ater. (AAP)

A woman has faced court charged with the stabbing murder of another woman in Melbourne.

Emma Yuot allegedly stabbed 57-year-old Adakruai Mitiang Ater at Ascot Vale on January 21.

Yuot, 27, was initially charged with offences including causing serious injury.

That charge was upgraded to murder when Ms Ater died eight days later.

Yuot appeared virtually in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday alongside a Dinka (South Sudanese) language interpreter.

Lawyer Marco Man said Yuot had psychological issues, but did not elaborate on what they were.

The accused killer was remanded to reappear in court for a committal case conference on May 6.
