Woman in coma after Ibiza hotel fall on holiday celebrating 30th birthday

A woman is in a coma after falling 12ft onto concrete while on holiday in Ibiza celebrating her 30th birthday.

Monica McGeachie fell from a hotel window in the Piscis Park Hotel.

Monica, from Dunoon in Argyll, is thought to have fallen through an empty window frame after trying to lean on it fro balance as she picked up a flip-flop.

The 30-year-old suffered swelling on the brain, a broken back and shoulder and two broken ankles, reports the Daily Record.

She has been placed in an induced coma after the incident more than three weeks ago on July 28.

In just nine days, almost £10,000 has been raised to support Monica and her family as they stay by her side in hospital , helping her with her recovery.

The JustGiving page, set up by Angela Malcolm, has been backed by more than 300 generous donors - smashing the original £5,000 target.

It reads: "Weʼre raising £5,000 to help fund Monica's recovery from her tragic accident & support her family to be by her side.

"With your help we can do this! Thank you."

Angela later added: "Thank you to each and every one of you for your overwhelming generosity. This means so much to the family. Sending love to you all.

"We can’t thank you enough. #KeepFightingMonica".

The 30-year-old was on holiday with her brother Kent and five other friends when tragedy struck.

The Scottish Sun on Sunday reports that Kent, 33, has stayed on the island with Monica during her recovery.

He told the paper: "It’s horrible, really bad. I was totally gone. If my friends weren’t there I don’t know what I would have done. I couldn’t think, I’ve lost a power of weight as well.

"She’s my baby sister, we are really close. We are distraught. One of the girls who was with her is in a bad way.

"She heard a book falling and she thought it was Monica falling. She’s having panic attacks, it’s really messed her up."

Speaking to STV News, Monica's sister JoAnne added: "We're just anxious and devastated. It feels surreal.

"It feels like something you see on the news - you don't ever think it will happen to you.

"The drop was 12ft - the height of the panel meant a child could have easily went straight through it.

"She's in an induced in coma. It was such a shock when we heard about the incident. You don't know what to expect."
