Woman in 60s held over misappropriation of €1.2M from struggling north Dublin credit union

A woman in her sixties is being questioned tonight in connection with missing funds at a north Dublin credit union amounting to seven figures.

A garda statement released in the last few minutes hailed the arrest as a "significant development".

It reads: "Gardaí investigating the misappropriation of funds to the value €1.2 million at a North Dublin Credit Union have today, 10/12/2020, arrested a woman on suspicion of offences contrary to the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001."

Gardai added that the arrest represents significant development in a long-standing investigation into fraudulent activity in the financial institution.

The woman is currently detained at Balbriggan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice act 1984.

Gardai added that investigations are ongoing - we'll bring you more on this breaking story as it develops.
