Woman hurt after falling 20ft off promenade in Barry in the dark

A woman needed hospital treatment after falling off the promenade in Barry Island in the dark.

Paramedics were called to the scene on Wednesday, October 27, around 7pm, after receiving a 999 call from a member of the public.

Coastguards said the woman had fallen around 20 feet from the promenade at Nells Point, Barry Island.

A spokesman said: "HM Coastguard received a call at 7.04pm on Wednesday October 27.

"Coastguard Rescue Teams from Barry and Llantwit were sent to assist the Welsh Ambulance Service."

Further statements from Barry Coastguard said: "On scene the casualty was treated for a suspected back injury."

She was transported to hospital with a reported back injury (Llantwit Major Coastguard)

Sonia Thompson, Assistant Director of Operations at the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called on Wednesday, October 27, to reports of a person having fallen from a promenade in Barry.

"We responded with a rapid response vehicle and an emergency ambulance. The patient was transported to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff."

The age of the casualty, and how she came to fall, has not been disclosed by the authorities.

Details on her condition is not known. However, it is believed her injuries were not life threatening.
