Woman hounded by abusive Scots ex fears he’ll do same again after dodging jail

A woman hounded by an abusive ex fears he will do the same again after he avoided a jail sentence.

Stephen MacIntyre, from East Kilbride, was slammed by a sheriff this week for “persistent harassment and abuse”.

But he avoided a prison sentence when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

MacIntyre, 38, admitted a course of conduct between July 2019 and March last year that caused his victim fear or alarm.

He bombarded a former partner with abusive phone calls and emails.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be named, received nearly 1000 emails and missed phone calls, and MacIntyre even threatened to disclose an intimate photograph of her.

He was ordered to undertake a domestic abuse programme and the sheriff also imposed a three-year non-harassment order that bans him from any contact with the victim.

But the victim said: “I was hoping he would get a period in jail – the non-harassment order is a help for me but what about the next poor girl that comes along?”
