Woman hospitalised after dangerous gas released while she cleaned bath

A woman has been taken to hospital after mixing two cleaning products which released a dangerous gas.

Emergency services rushed to an address in Bishopston at around 1:30pm today (June 29) to reports of a 'chemical incident'.

It's understood the woman mixed a cleaner to unblock her sink with bleach when the hazardous gas was released, which then caused breathing difficulties.

Crews from Temple, Southmead and Patchway used positive pressured ventilators to remove lingering substances from the house.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 1:30pm this afternoon to an address in Bishopston.

"Upon arrival, crews were made aware that the occupant was cleaning the bath at the time of the incident.

"Ambulance was already in attendance dealing with the casualty.

"Crews used a positive pressured ventilator to ventilate the property and remove any gas.

"A hazardous material expert attended the scene.

"The incident was caused when two different cleaners reacted to each other and effected the casualty.

"She was assessed by ambulance at the scene and then taken to hospital."
