It turns out that basic hygiene isn’t common knowledge for everyone. Some people certainly have some disturbing habits when it comes to cleaning their own body but normally how someone chooses to wash is their own business. But those rules don’t apply if you’re sharing soap with somebody else.
One woman on Reddit has decided to throw out all of the soap in her house after she made a shocking discovery in the worst way possible. “I (26F) don’t even know how to start this without gagging.” She starts her story. The woman then goes on to describe how she came to the horrific revelation that her boyfriend had been using their shared bar of soap to clean his butthole.
The couple had been living together for about three months when the woman learnt the truth about how her boyfriend washed. The boyfriend had suffered from food poisoning resulting in a bad case of diarrhea in the middle of the night. Rushing to the bathroom to relieve himself he chose to have a quick shower afterwards.
All good so far, but the problems came the next morning when the woman went to have a shower herself only to discover chunks of poop on the soap bar “I gagged so hard I almost threw up,” she writes in her Reddit post.
Is this normal?
When she confronted her boyfriend about it he acted as if it was the most ordinary thing in the world, telling her, “I probably didn’t rinse the soap off right.” Of course, the issue isn’t with rinsing the soap off right, but more to do with using the soap to clean that specific area of the body. Most people would use a washcloth or make a lather with their hands but not this guy apparently.
This is particularly unhygienic considering they both use that bar of soap to wash. Deciding the best course of action was to throw away all the soap in the house this caused the boyfriend to get defensive and then upset, storming out and apparently telling his sister and mother about the argument.
The boyfriend’s family took his side, with the sister texting the woman to chastise her for “embarrassing” him. Meanwhile the mother told her “Men have been using bars of soap for generations. You’re making it sound filthy.”
They’re either trying to convince the woman that how her boyfriend cleans himself is normal, or they don’t know the full story. Others on Reddit suggested she tell the mom and sister the full story and see if they still take his side. Others pointed out that the boyfriend had already displayed two red flags by misusing the soap, and running to his mom when he was called out. Everyone also agreed that the way he used the soap was also gross and not normal in the slightest.
