Woman hit on back of head by stranger while walking on Restalrig Rail Path with young child

A woman was hit on the back of the head by a stranger while walking along an Edinburgh rail path with a young child.

The 41-year-old was on Restalrig Rail Path, near Leith Academy and heading towards Easter Road, when she was approached and assaulted.

The incident happened in broad daylight – at around 1.30pm on Monday.

Police say the victim was walking with a three year old child who was riding a push bike at the time.

Officers add that the suspect is described as being mixed-race, around 30 to 35 years old, of medium build and with short dark hair. He was wearing either a black jacket and black trousers, or a dark grey tracksuit.

Edinburgh police want anyone with information on the incident, or the possible identity of the suspect, to contact officers on 101 quoting incident number 2291 of 18 May. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
