Woman hit by car near Tesco as police close off mile of road

A woman was rushed to hospital after being knocked down near Tesco in Moreton.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Fenders Lane shortly after 3pm on Tuesday to reports a pedestrian had been hit by a car.

The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by paramedics.

According to police the woman was hit by a silver Renault Clio and the driver stopped at the scene to help police.

Road closures were quickly put in place at the site of the crash where police cordoned off just over a mile of the area.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Emergency services were called to an RTC on Fenders Lane, Wirral, at around 3.15pm today (Wednesday 27 January), following reports that a silver Renault Clio was in collision with a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a woman in her 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver stopped at the scene.

"Roads are currently closed in both directions between Tesco roundabout on Hoylake Road and the junction of Reeds Lane and Fenders Lane.

"We ask drivers to avoid the area as enquiries are carried out."

Pictures taken on Fenders Lane show officers working on both sides of the cordon as a silver car remained inside the scene.
