Woman has acid thrown over her on her doorstep suffering serious injuries

A woman is in hospital with serious injuries after she had acid thrown over her while she stood on her doorstep.

Today detectives were hunting for the attacker who fled from the scene after the victim was ambushed with the burning liquid.

The woman was rushed to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition after the attack at around 4.20pm in Brighton, East Sussex.

Detective Sergeant Jennifer Pietersen said: "The victim has suffered multiple serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

"We are pursuing a number of inquiries to identify and arrest the suspect involved.

"High visibility patrols are being carried out in the city and house to house inquiries are ongoing.

"We urge anyone with information to contact us without delay."

The force confirmed that an investigation into the incident had been launched.

“Officers swiftly responded to a report of noxious substance being thrown over a woman in the doorway of a property in Steine Garden at around 4.20pm," a spokesperson said.

“The suspect left the scene prior to police arrival. Officers are conducting a number of fast-time inquiries to identify the suspect and identify any witnesses.

“The victim has been taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in a serious condition.”
