Woman 'had machete' after man 'slashed in 2.30am attack'

A woman arrested after a slashing is set to stand trial charged with having a machete in public.

Police were called to Hey Green Road, Wavertree after reports that a male had been injured in the early hours of Saturday, February 15 this year.

Officers found a man with a "minor slash injury", who they said was not willing to cooperate with their enquiries, at around 2.30am.

Crime scene investigators could be seen taking photographs of the front door of a house near the road's junction with Somerton Street.

Merseyside Police said a blade was recovered, but a teenager arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent would face no further action.

However, 31-year-old Kayleigh Graham was also arrested and charged with possessing a sharp pointed article in a public place.

According to the charge, she had "without good reason or lawful authority" a blade, "namely a machete", in nearby Colinton Street, which is behind Heygreen Community Primary School.

Graham, of Finch Dene, West Derby, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court for a short plea and trial preparation hearing this morning.

The defendant, with long black hair and wearing a black and white top in the dock, spoke only to confirm her details and plead not guilty.

Mark Phillips, prosecuting, said a trial would be estimated to last two days and could be held on Monday, November 2 this year.

Judge Garrett Byrne remanded Graham on unconditional bail.

He said she would next appear at court for her trial.
