PHETCHABUN: A woman and her 11-year-old grandson were found dead with multiple stab wounds at their house in Lom Sak district on Wednesday morning.
The fatal stabbing occurred at a wooden house in front of Wat Intechasawang Wararam in tambon Nong Kwai, said Pol Capt Pichit Boonlai, deputy investigator at Lom Sak police station, and was reported at 5.50am.
Emergency services found the dead body of the house owner, Sanom Kesorn, 56, at the door of the house. She had at least 40 stab wounds.
The dead body of her 11-year-old gtandson was lying near her, with at least 10 stab wounds.
Police said the door was forced open and there were traces of a struggle inside the house. A sharp-pointed knife, a screw driver and a yellow cap believed to belong to the killer were found inside the house.
Neighbours told police they heard screaming and the sound of fighting at the house early on Wednesday. They came to check in the morning and found Sanom and her grandson dead in a pool of blood. They called out for the victim’s 4-year-old granddaughter, who finally came out of hiding. They immediately took the girl from the house and alerted police.
Investigators initially suspected Sanom had awoken to find a burglar in the house looking for valuables to steal and he had killed her and then the boy when he also came to see what was happening.
The brutal murder frightened local residents. They cursed the murderer and asked police to urgently bring him to justice.
