Woman glassed in the face by man in unprovoked attack outside Paisley pub

A woman was rushed to hospital after being glassed in the face by an angry thug outside a Paisley pub.

The victim, 24, and her friend had been standing outside the Balnagowan Arms in Paisley's Neilston Road having a cigarette when they were approached by a group of four to five men.

An argument broke out between the women and one of the men in the group, with one of the men then lashing out with what police believe was a bottle or a glass, striking the woman in the face.

The glass thug and the group of men then fled the scene.

The "unacceptable" and violent attack was completely unprovoked, and resulted in the woman being rushed to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment to lacerations on her face.

Detectives in Paisley have now launched an investigation into the serious assault which took place shortly after 1am on Sunday.

The suspect is described as a white male with a beard, and officers are appealing to anyone who may have been at the pub or in Neilston Road at the time of the attack to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross, of Paisley's CID, said: "This was a completely unacceptable and unprovoked attack on a young woman who was with her friend outside a pub in Paisley.
